Counseling

Classroom Guidance

• School Counselors teach monthly guidance lessons in all grade levels that address the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Standards and focus on academic achievement, personal/social development, and career exploration.

Individual Counseling

• Students can meet with the School Counselor for individual counseling that is voluntary, confidential, and solution focused to address a variety of issues and help teach problem solving skills.
• Students are referred for individual counseling through parent, teacher, administration or self-referral.  Individuals referring a student for counseling must complete a referral form and submit it to the School Counselor.

Group Counseling

• School Counselors run small counseling groups in six to eight week sessions to address specific concerns and help to remove barriers to student and personal success.
• Students are referred for group counseling sessions by teacher or administration by completing a referral form. Group topics vary by grade level and are subject to availability.

Consultation

• School Counselors work closely with caregivers, teachers, and administrators regarding academic, behavior, and/or social concerns that are affecting the student’s growth.
• Individuals requesting a consultation may contact the School Counselor via a referral form, e-mail, or phone to set up a meeting.

Students can talk to a School Counselor about anything! Some specific topics include:

• Peer difficulties
• Being successful in school
• Making positive choices
• Coping with difficult situations
• Understanding their feelings

When students speak with the School Counselor they need to feel like they are in a safe, non-judgmental space.  All counseling services are confidential unless the student provides permission for the information to be shared or if the student is being harmed by others, hurting themselves, or if they are hurting someone else.
