Destination ImagiNation is a creative educational program that fosters teamwork and problem-solving skills as students work to solve various challenges. Teams present their challenges at the Charles County DI tournament in mid-March. This program requires excellent public speaking skills, creativity and responsible behavior. Parents and teachers serve as team managers for the teams. All interested students are given a chance to participate. Kindergarten-2nd grade are noncompetitive teams and 3rd grade-5thgrade are competitive teams.
The Dr. James Craik math team is represented by seven 4th grade and seven 5th grade mathematicians. These students will compete in the Charles County Elementary Mathematics Challenge. During the challenge our students will solve problems based on the Common Core Standards in both an individual and a group round . The competition is sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO).
The Tiger Green Team is an after-school club for students in grades 1-3. Members will learn about protecting the environment, recycling, and conservation. Throughout the year students will be engaged in activities that are linked to energy conservation, solid waste reduction, schoolyard and habitat restoration and keeping Dr. James Craik a healthy place to learn.
Students compete with area elementary and middle schools to research, design, build, and control a robot with many capabilities. If you are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or research, apply to join the Craik Tigers Robotics Club.
Student Ambassadors is a program that helps students build on their confidence, leadership skills, and connectedness to their school community. Teachers were asked to select a student to whom they felt could benefit from this opportunity and to whom would be best fit for the job. Student Ambassadors help with special events such as meet and greets for recognition assemblies, introducing new students to the building and staff, and being their “go-to” person for the new students first couple weeks here at Dr. James Craik.
